Towards Unification of Sciences attempts to develop harmony among vedic science, spiritual science and modern science.

This issue moves ahead with seven papers, the first five searching for a unified dynamic for all the universal systems by Prof. Bishnu Charanabinda Mohanty, myself making debut through the next paper presenting western worldview on unity of knowledge, and the last is a wonderful commentary by Prof. Niranjan Barik on evolution of living matters following a cosmic plan during the last billions of years.

The first paper ‘Unified Concept of Energy for All Domains’ presents a new vision for a single energy standard to successfully explain all the nature’s domains, such as macro domain (solar system), micro domain (atomic particles) and micro-micro domain (light particles) those are explained differently at present. The author’s main argument is that when uniformity of the norms of nature, which is an intrinsic aspect of nature, is well perceived in macro domain physics; there is no reason why should there be a break of the uniformity of structure, feature and the laws in finer domains of nature. He further pleads that the light particle (photon) may not have mass when measured in atomic mass unit (AMU), however, it has mass when measured in photonic mass unit (PMU). Then he puts forth a new path for the transformation of the energy scenario based on the updated understanding of matter as a mass-space integral system with a mass-space structure and the new understanding that light particles have mass in photonic mass units. The author is also hopeful that, not only the new concept of energy would help to read nature in a natural manner, but also will be developing harmony between the concepts of energy in Vedic science and modern science.

The next three papers ‘Mechanism of Formation of Ionosperic Shells – A New Concept,’ ‘Origin of Geomagnetism – A new Concept’ and ‘Formation of Aurora – A new Concept’ are interconnected. The author begins with explanations of the structure and feature of ionosphere of the earth including various anomalies by considering the recent knowledge of the negative charge of the earth and the positive charge of the sun. Here, he brings in the remarkable resemblance between the atomic system and the solar system that, in each case, the nucleus (nucleus and sun) is positively charged and the revolving bodies (electron and planet) are negatively charged. Basically, the natural charge state of earth and the sun provides the exact analysis of the features of ionosphere of the earth. Taking the clue from here, he proposes his new theory for explaining the ionospheric structure and feature including the alternate charge polarity of ionospheric shells considering charge polarization concept. In fact, the charge polarization concept has scope to provide a better understanding of geomagnetism and auroral events; and he proceeds with his new approach to understand the cause of geomagnetism from the equivalent ring current in the earth’s crust and ionosphere. This new analysis justifies the exact nature of geomagnetism and its variation. Then he shows that the formation of aurora and its different features are better understood by the new charge polarization structure of ionosphere which is caused due to the negative charge of crust and the positive charge of core of the Earth. The fact that the geomagnetic field lines cross the ionospheric charge shells between 600 to 850 latitudes, and the occurrence of aurore are confined to these latitudes conforms the new mechanism of formation of aurora. It can be said that it is just natural that the ionosphere, geomagnetism and aurora in earth’s atmosphere have a common cause linking with the charge polarized structure of the earth. The fifth paper ‘Birth and Death of Physical Universe’, considers how each of Vedic science and modern science explain this phenomenon. Though the author values both concepts on universe formation, he has discovered the basic universal norm of the existing phase of the universe as mass-space attraction, mass-mass repulsion and space-space repulsion. Using this universal law, the state of universe at the beginning and at end of a cycle is predictable. The new basic mass-space interaction leads towards revival of faith on consistency and uniformity of nature; and the author is optimistic for a unified dynamic for systems in micro and macro domains.

The 6th paper ‘Unity of Knowledge: A Brief Overview’ presents a worldview on unity of knowledge. The knowledge of various branches such as natural sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities, psychology, moral ethics, and comparative religion are covered; and the authors’ affiliations range through geography, exploration, natural study, biological sciences, neurosciences, psychology, and theology. They have used methodologies such as consilience, resonance, and mutual juxta-positioning for unification of knowledge. Apparently, the approach generates positive thought, coherence, and harmony. However, one unintentional limitation of this paper is that its discussion pertains to the Western world and Christian religious school(s) of thought only. The last paper ‘Understanding the Living Matter – The Physical Basis of Life’ provides a systematic and pleasant description of how living matter have been sequentially evolved by nature following the fundamental physical principles in the form of a cosmic plan during the last billions of years. Starting with a quote from Rig Veda regarding the origin of matter, energy and forces from an initial formless void, Prof. Barik confirms that modern science also believes in the creation of this Universe in similar way with a so called ‘Big Bang’, nearly 14 billion years ago. Then he proceeds with describing the story of how the nature have provided with a suitable driving force, the fundamental building blocks, a medium of transport within the living space, and a steady source of free energy to sustain life and living process, to finally present the early living structures. In each step, he shows that our Universe is the exact provider of exact matter, medium and energy suitable for creation and sustenance of living matter and concludes that life is only possible in our type Universe.

Thus, another issue successfully puts a few more steps forward ‘towards unification of science’.
